Creating Datasets from 3D-model collections from files or 3DCityDB
A 3D model collection can represent a city model for instance, or street furniture, or any other 3D-object asset collection that is to large or contains to many files to handle as simple uploads in the editor. The formats that are supported are KMZ, Collada and CityGML.
KMZ and Collada has to be uploaded as files, whereas CityGML has to be loaded into a 3DCityDB and then configure access to that DB from DataManager.
KMZ are by definition georeferenced in WGS84, and Collada can be referenced in any coordinate system.
Upload your files through drag & drop on DataManager or use the Azure Storage Explorer application. Create a new Source, select type Feature, enter the coordinate system and give it a name. Choose Files and select the files you uploaded. The files will be verified and when that is done, you can click the vertical ellipsis icon and Resume to start the build phase of the source. When that is done, you can create a dataset from it.
If you want to connect to a 3DCityDB, pick CityDB as input type. Then, enter the host URL and the credentials for the database. You need to allow OCP to access your database with at least read rights. Pick the LOD you want for your source. You can mix different LODs in a dataset, but you need to setup a source per LOD and then use them both when you’re creating the dataset. Select if you want to read the buildings or vegetation from the database. Click Next to verify the connection.
Creating a Dataset
Go to the Dataset tab and create a new Dataset. Select Feature as type and define the coordinate system. Pick the sources you want to use. You can mix 3D object sources from files and databases. Next, set the bounds for the dataset and you’re done.
